All Hallows by the Tower
The Secrets of the Oldest Church in the City of London - All Hallows by the Tower.
All Hallows by the
Tower has been a place of worship since 675AD.
Evidence of its existence through the centuries begins with Roman pavements,
followed by 7th century Saxon artefacts and a Knights Templar
alter. With over 1,300 years of London’s history
under one roof it’s pretty special! And that’s
just the building. There are stories a plenty that bring very well-known historical
figures like Samuel Pepys, Thomas More and William Penn to life.
Did you know that Samuel Pepys watched the fire of London (1666) from
the Tower of All Hallows? So if you
find yourself in the city with 20 minutes to spare pop in and visit the fabulous
museum in the crypt, learn about the church from many of the voluteers and travel back in time.
